On January 26, Animal, which had been much anticipated by fans of Ranbir Kapoor, was finally available on Netflix. However, the streaming service is currently receiving a significant backlash on social media for not releasing the version with an Extended Cut. See the complete story here.

Animal, Ranbir Kapoor’s most recent and significant theatrical release, has finally made it to over-the-top (OTT) streaming service. The news of the action star’s arrival was announced by Netflix on Friday, January 26 via social media. A number of reports had earlier stated that Animal would be arriving on Netflix with an Extended Cut, which would have meant an additional 8 to 9 minutes of footage for the film’s online premiere. Fans were ecstatic about the OTT version of Animal and, when the day of its premiere finally arrived, they were disappointed that there was no Extended Cut and started harassing Netflix on social media.

Social media users criticized Netflix for not providing an Extended Cut for Animal’s OTT version. “But disappointed knowing there is no extended version on Netflix as said earlier,” one user wrote. “What happened with extended version?? Second half is rubbish. Good first half.” A third user asked when the Extended Cut Version of @AnimalTheFilm would be released.

For the benefit of the uninitiated, the Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC) certified Animal ‘A’ before to its distribution and insisted on five cuts be made to the movie.

Performance at the Box Office

Regarding the box office, the movie was a major commercial success and went on to gross over Rs 800 crore worldwide, making it one of the most successful Hindi films ever. However, as it was released in theaters alongside Vicky Kaushal’s Sam Bahadur, the results could have been considerably higher.

The film ‘Animal,’ a crime thriller starring Ranbir Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Anil Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, and Triptii Dimri, was a box office success and received critical acclaim in December 2023. The film was notable for its exciting storyline and outstanding performances from its ensemble cast.

‘Animal,’ which has been in theaters for almost two months, is getting ready for its Netflix debut, which will give fans the opportunity to either re-experience the interesting story or experience it for the first time.

India’s Republic Day is tomorrow, and to celebrate the long weekend, action-loving movie buffs may anticipate an intense film marathon. An over-the-top website has recently revealed that ‘Animal’ would launch on their platform on January 26, 2024.

“The air is dense and the temperature is increasing. Witness his furious wrath in Animal, streaming from January 26 on Netflix in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada,” the platform wrote on Instagram.

With over Rs 500 crores in domestic box office receipts and over Rs 800 crores worldwide, Animal was eagerly anticipated for its OTT release, which came with an expanded cut.

Ranbir Kapoor on the OTT release of Animal

Speaking about the OTT release, Ranbir Kapoor said in a statement, “We are absolutely overjoyed by the response Animal received in theaters and now I am glad that audiences worldwide will get a chance to watch it in the comfort of their homes. The opportunity to showcase our work globally is truly special.” In addition to Hindi, Animal will also be available in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada on the OTT platform.

Animal, an action drama directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, delves into the complexities of contemporary relationships, highlighting the toxic dynamic between a father and son (played by Anil and Ranbir, respectively). Rashmika plays Ranbir’s future wife, whom he marries, and Triptii makes an appearance as his affair. Bobby plays a subdued, vicious gangster in the movie.

Murad Khetani, Pranay Reddy Vanga, Bhushan Kumar, and Krishan Kumar produce Animal.

A dispute that had previously existed between T-Series and CINE 1 Studios Private Limited, the film’s co-producers, was resolved in the Delhi High Court following a plea from Cine1 Studios to halt the release of the movie on the over-the-top (OTT) platform until T-Series complied with the terms of the agreement, which called for the two houses to share 35 percent ownership of the film and to assign their right of first refusal and last matching right.

The two production houses made an appearance through their senior counsel, Amit Sibal and Sandeep Sethi, who submitted and brought to the record that their clients had reached a settlement agreement; the bench of Justice Sanjeev Narula noted their remarks.

After being panned by critics and viewers for “promoting violence and misogyny,” Animl hit theaters on December 1st, 2023 and went on to become one of the highest grossing films of the year, breaking box office records both in India and abroad. The official confirmation of the film’s sequel, Animal Park, came earlier.
