The mastermind behind the November 2018 robbery of Reliance Jewels, which occurred in the posh Rajpur Road area of Dehradun and included around Rs 20 crore, has been apprehended in Patna, Bihar.
The culprit, who is the robbery’s mastermind, has been named Shashank, according to a statement made by Superintendent of Police Ajay Singh on Sunday.
“Dehradun Police has arrested Shasank, the mastermind behind the robbery of the Reliance Jewellery Store on Rajpur Road in Dehradun, during the night from the Beur police station area in Patna district,” the statement read.
Five armed men wearing masks stole gold and diamond jewelry worth approximately Rs 10 crore at gunpoint from the Reliance Jewels showroom in the posh Rajpur Road neighborhood of Dehradun in November of last year. This bold daylight robbery is thought to be the largest of its kind in Uttarakhand’s history.
Most police officers were at Police Lines for the occasion when the dacoity occurred, which coincided with President Droupadi Murmu’s visit to the city for Uttarakhand State Foundation Day.
According to authorities, four individuals broke into the showroom while one was stationed outside the jewelry store to monitor it. The robbers then took 11 employees, including the guard, hostage at gunpoint inside the showroom and stole gold and silver.
The thieves left their motorcycles behind as soon as they got word that the police had been notified.
Pushkar Singh Dhami, the chief minister, had already called the SSP Dehradun and the director general of police in relation to the same.
