The Sikh community celebrates Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s 357th birthday on his birth anniversary, Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti.

On this momentous day, people visit Gurudwaras, exchange teachings, exchange greetings, participate in langars, light candles, and remember the tenth Guru, Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh.

Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti 2024: According to the Hindu Calendar, Guru Gobind Singh ji was born on Saptami Tithi of Shukla Paksha 1723 Samvat in the month of Pausha. He was the tenth Guru of Sikhism. The Sikh community considers the anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s birth to be a significant day.

Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti 2024: Significance:

Guru Gobind Singh Ji was born on December 22, 1666, in Patna, Bihar, according to the Julian calendar. This calendar is no longer in use and is thought to be outdated. His mother’s name was Mata Gujri. In 1675, Aurangzeb killed his father, Guru Tegh Bahadur, for refusing to convert to Islam. Gobind Singh was proclaimed the tenth Guru of the Sikhs on Baisakhi in 1676, at the age of nine.

History Born in the Takhat Shri Harimander Ji Patna Sahib, the family moved to Punjab again in 1670, and then in March 1672, to Chak Nanaki, in the Shivalik Hills of the Himalayas. Now called Anandpur Sahib, Chak Nanaki was the schooling ground for warriors, where he studied military arts, Sanskrit, and Persian.

Later, Guru Gobind Singh Ji established the Khalsa Panth. The Khalsa people bravely fought against the Mughal emperors while adhering to a strict spiritual discipline overseen by Guru Gobind Singh ji. Guru Gobind Singh ji was a gifted poet and writer who produced a wide range of literary works. Prior to his death in 1708, he declared the Guru Granth Sahib to be the permanent Sikh Guru; the Guru Granth Sahib ji is revered by Sikhs.

People go to Gurudwaras and share his teachings with others. They meet and greet each other. They give each other Langars. Every Gurudwara is decorated with lights and candles. Some places also tell stories about Guru Nanak Vani. Guru Gobind Singh Ji created the esteemed khalsa Vani, “Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh.”

The holy khalsa Vani, “Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh,” was produced by Guru Gobind Singh Ji.
