Tanush Kotian of Mumbai and Tushar Deshpande in ranji trophy

Ranji Trophy 2023–24: After entering at numbers 10 and 11, respectively, Tanush Kotian and Tushar Deshpande shattered a ton of records with their record 10-wicket stand, blasting hundreds in quick succession.

In the Ranji Trophy quarterfinal match against Baroda, Mumbai all-rounders Tanush Kotian and Tushar Deshpande made history by being just the second No. 10 and No. 11 combination in First-Class history to achieve centuries in the same innings.

Mumbai batted Baroda out of the game after building a 36-run advantage in the first innings thanks to a solid partnership between Kotian and Deshpande, who combined for the final wicket in the team’s second essay at 337 for nine overnight. With nine fours and three sixes in 115 balls, Kotian scored his first century. Deshpande did the same in 112 deliveries, scoring eight fours and six maximums in an innings that gave both batsmen their first-ever hundreds in First-Class cricket.

After Chandu Sarwate and Shute Banerjee, the tandem is the only other pair to score First-Class hundreds as Nos. 10 and No. 11 in the same innings. The accomplishment was made in a 1946 Surrey vs. Indians game at the Oval by Sarwate and Banerjee.

Additionally in Ranji Trophy , Kotian and Deshpande’s partnership marks just the third time that two Indians have managed to put up a 200-plus stand for the final wicket. Deshpande also broke Banerjee’s record of 121 runs to become the greatest FC score by an Indian number 11 batsman. He also became just the third Indian batter to reach a hundred runs in a First-Class match while batting at number 11. Deshpande ultimately fell short of the Ranji Trophy record at 232, having holed out at 123.

Ajay Sharma and Maninder Singh are the holders of the Ranji Trophy record, while Sarwate and Banerjee hold the overall Indian record with their 249-run partnership. With a 233-run partnership against Bombay in the 1991–92 Ranji semifinal at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, Sharma and Singh accomplished the feat.

Singh scored 78 during their 233-run partnership, while Sharma top-scored with an undefeated 259 in a game that Delhi ultimately won thanks to the first-inning lead.

In Ranji Trophy history, Kotian and Deshpande record the second-highest wicket-for-wicket partnership.

In the Mumbai quarterfinal match against Baroda at the BKC Ground, Tanush Kotian and Tushar Deshpande shared the second-highest tenth-wicket partnership.

In the Mumbai quarterfinal match against Baroda at the BKC Ground, Tanush Kotian and Tushar Deshpande shared the second-highest tenth-wicket partnership.

One run short of the 233-run record held by Ajay Sharma and Maninder Singh for Delhi against Mumbai in the 1991–92 season, Kotian and Deshpande added 232 runs for the tenth wicket.

With a single off Bharghav Batt, Kotian reached his century in 115 deliveries, and Deshpande did the same with an incredible 112-ball ton to become Mumbai’s first number 11 centurion. As numbers 10 and 11, the tandem is the only other duo in history to score First-Class hundreds in the same innings.

Mumbai amassed a massive 569 runs before Deshpande finally fell for a brilliant 123 off Ninad Rathva. Chasing 606 runs appears to be an extremely difficult assignment for Baroda.

Mumbai had a 36-run advantage in the first innings and because to the contributions of Kotian and Deshpande, they were nearly certain to qualify for the semifinals. In the semifinals, Mumbai will play Tamil Nadu, who defeated Saurashtra.
