Sudipto Sen’s film, The Kerala Story, starring Adah Sharma, will soon be accessible on Zee5.

Adah Sharma’s film The Kerala Story, which is helmed by Sudipto Sen and supported by Vipul Shah, is about to go on its over-the-top (OTT) adventure. Adah informed her followers of this wonderful news on Instagram.

In The Kerala Story, three girls—Shalini (Adah Sharma), Nimah (Yogita Bihani), and Geetanjali (Siddhi Idnani)—are tricked into becoming followers of a different religion by Asifa (Sonia Balani), their roommate.

The film is divided into two sections: the first part describes how the girls were coerced into becoming members of a terrorist organization, and the second part chronicles Shalini’s journey as Fatima Ba, a converted terrorist and her imprisonment in Afghanistan. It also depicts how men were brainwashed to seduce Christian and Hindu women in Kerala under the pretext of love, convert them, and persuade them to join combat zones. The shocking incidents took place between 2018 and 2019, when an increasing number of Kerala youths fell prey to terrorist organizations.

Adah Sharma talks about her first appearance on OTT in The Kerala Story.

Adah Sharma expressed her sentiments, saying, “The film’s makers, Vipul Shah and Sudipto Sen, deserve immense praise for their tremendous efforts in bringing The Kerala Story to life. Following the film’s phenomenal box office success, which made history by becoming the highest grossing female lead film ever, we are now anticipating the film’s release on ZEE5. Our partnership with this global platform will allow us to expand the films reach to a much wider audience. The audience who missed the film’s theatrical release and many who saw it and want to rewatch it are eagerly awaiting its release. I am thrilled to have an opportunity to work on this project.

Vipul Amrutlal Shah enthusiastically talked about the OTT journey, expressing how incredible it would be to watch “The Kerala Story” on ZEE5 from the comfort of your home.

The performance of The Kerala Story at the box office reassured me and reinforced my confidence. But for those who have not watched the film yet, I urge them to watch The Kerala Story on ZEE5 for a transformational experience. Many people are living in the dark about the reality of the situation, and for those, this film will lift that darkness and show them the naked truth as the stories in the film are real. The faces in the film are real. The outcomes and repercussions for the characters.

The trailer for The Kerala Story, which claimed that 32,000 women went missing from Kerala, sparked criticism from many who felt that the numbers were estimated. Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, called the film a “distorted story” and banned its release in the state, but that ban was later lifted after the Supreme Court ordered the state government to lift its prohibition on the film’s release.

The Kerala Story, which made a strong impression at the movie office last year, will make its ZEE5 debut on February 16.

Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Sonia Balani, and Siddhi Idnani are among the cast members of The Kerala Story, a 2023 Indian Hindi-language drama film directed by Sudipto Sen and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah. The story follows a group of Keralan women who are forced to convert to Islam and join the Islamic State. Marketed as a true story, the film is based on the Hindutva conspiracy theory of “love jihad,” and falsely claims that thousands of Hindu women from Kerala have been recruited by the Islamic State.

The Kerala Story debuted in theaters on May 5, 2023, and went on to become the ninth-highest-grossing Hindi film of 2023 with a global gross of ₹303.97 crore (US$38 million).The film was heavily pushed by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which used it as a tool for campaigning during the Karnataka assembly election. Critics gave it a dismal review, labelling it as propaganda against Islam.The film has also been the subject of lengthy legal disputes and demonstrations, mostly in Kerala, West Bengal, and Tamil Nadu.

Political resistance

The only two parties to rule Kerala since Independence, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Indian National Congress, have both objected to the film on the grounds that it propagates “communal misinformation” in line with the Sangh Parivar’s agenda. Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) and several Muslim political organizations staged protests in Tamil Nadu.

public demonstrations

The movie has sparked protests from the public in both Kerala and Tamil Nadu. In Tamil Nadu, the movie did poorly and the Tamil Nadu Multiplex Association was reportedly forced to stop showing it; the makers, however, contest these accusations and blame political censorship.In Kerala, the movie met a similar end.

Box office revenue

A total of ₹288.04 crore (US$36 million) had been earned in India as of June 15, 2023, with ₹15.64 crore (US$2.0 million) earned overseas for a worldwide gross collection of ₹303.97 crore (US$38 million). This makes the movie the seventh-highest grossing Hindi film of 2023.The film did well in northern India but underperformed in the south.
