Less than 12% of viewers in total saw the new spin-off, which features the reunion of past Love Island faves like Chris Taylor, Georgia Steel, and Liberty Poole, who most recently starred in Barbie.
All Stars is hosted in South Africa, just like previous winter editions. Last year’s winter edition began on ITV 2, but it trailed last night’s broadcast across both channels by just 100,000 viewers. The previous Love Island summer premiered on ITV 2 to 1.3 million viewers in June, based on Barb data provided by overnights.tv.
All Stars was given the prime time slot on ITV 1 from 9 p.m. GMT (1 p.m. PT) until 10.30 p.m. GMT; however, it lagged much behind BBC One’s Silent Witness.
More revealingly, it lost to a replay of Channel 4’s 24 Hours in Police Custody, which aired, by 200,000 votes.
A similar strategy was used by ITV with Big Brother, whose resurrection earlier this year began on ITV 1 and ran on ITV 2 for the duration of the show, starting at 2.5 million and averaging slightly less than one million.
Tonight and for the following five weeks, Love Island: All Stars will continue.
